Thank You Gift
On the last day of my internship I went in there expecting it to be just like any other day. The only thing I had expected to be out of the ordinary was for them to eat the cupcakes I had brought in to say thank you for letting me come into their room and teach. Well, the day started off normal but after a few minutes of walking around and helping students I noticed a card in the trash can that said “Goodbye Mrs.” I thought maybe it could have been for me, but chances were it was for somebody else. So, I forgot about for the rest of the day. It didn’t even cross my mind again until there was some down time in class when Mrs. Darwin handed me a bag with a hallmark card taped to it. She had me read the card aloud to the class first. In the card Mrs. Darwin had wrote,” Kelley, I am so glad you were able to come into my classroom as a Teacher Cadet. I think you will be a wonderful teacher. Here is a gift you can use when you DO become a teacher. Please visit us before school ends. Sincerely, Mrs. Darwin” and a few of the other teachers had signed it at the bottom as well. When I opened the gift I thought it was perfect! She bought me a beaded lanyard to hold my ID badge. My gift from the class was a card that they had all signed. Some of them had written little notes wishing me luck and saying thank you. I was so touched to have gotten those presents, especially since I wasn’t expecting anything at all. I will always keep those cards and I will wear that lanyard every day when I’m a real teacher. I just couldn’t say thank you enough to that entire class and Mrs. Darwin for everything. They will always be special to me, and so will their gifts.
