Advice for Future Teacher Cadets
My advice for future Teacher Cadets would be to make full use of your time at your internship. Your time there is going to fly by faster than you can imagine, so make it count! Also, enjoy your time there. If you’re not enjoying being there, maybe because you’re not doing much, then talk with your mentor teacher so he/she can let you do something that you would enjoy. Take everything that you do there seriously. Whether it’s teaching a lesson or just making copies, because when you become an actual teacher you’re going to have to know how to do everything that your mentor teacher is asking you to do now. The internship is meant to be an educational experience to show you what it’s like to be a teacher. It ends up being fun a lot of the time, because for a lot of people teaching is fun! That’s another thing makes sure you’re having fun! Teach the way you would like to be taught, but still be effective. Establish a good relationship with both your mentor teacher and your students. Both of them are going to be very important for your entire time there. If you already know you really want to be a teacher, then I know you’ll have a great time. If you’re not exactly sure yet, well, that’s what your internship is for! Just give it a chance, and if it turns out not to be for you, it’s better to know that now better than later. I’m sure you’ll love it though! I did!
