Profile of Cooperating Teacher
Troy Anne Darwin has been teaching for nineteen years. In fact, six years ago she was my fifth grade teacher. She was probably my favorite teacher throughout all of elementary school. Mrs. Darwin truly cares about all of her students past, present, and future. The week before my last day she told me “Even after nineteen years, I still like to make it fun for the kids.” I really admire that about her, because if the kids aren’t having fun they’re not going to want learn. I guess a lot of people admire the way she teaches because in 2012 she was one of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Teachers of the Year. The entire time I was there she was always giving my tips for when I become a real teacher. She would tell me about organization, money, retirement, time management, discipline, and more. She didn’t have to do any of that! She could have just let me come in there, teach two lessons then be on my way. Instead, she showed me that she really cared and welcomed me in. I really appreciate that. The thing is that she probably didn’t even think twice about what she was telling me. I on the other hand will take those words to heart and I know they will help me in the future. Another thing is that not only does she have an amazing relationship with her students; she gets along with all of the faculty and staff as well. Mrs. Darwin is one of those teachers that pop into your head when you think about good teachers. I do believe that teaching, like singing, is a gift that some people have and some people don’t. There is no doubt in my mind Mrs. Darwin has that gift.
