How Field Experience Changed Me
This field experience changed me in so many ways. First off, it truly did emphasize that I really do want to be a teacher. I just can’t see myself doing anything else. I’ve learned that there is so much more to teaching than what the students see. Teachers have to spend hours making lesson plans, preparing for those lessons, talking to parents, going to meetings, and so much more. I think that most teachers feel that even through all that they’re still worth it because those are all just minor things compared to the joy you get from teaching children. Secondly, this experience has made me more comfortable speaking in front of a classroom. I remember in the beginning of the year it was so hard for me to stand up in front of the class and just talk. I would say what I was going to say and then still have most of my required time left. So, I would get nervous and everybody could tell and it was just not a good situation. However, now I have improved significantly. I still have a few of my moments but not nearly as dramatic as before. Also, overall I think this internship has changed the way I view thing a little. Now, if somebody in class doesn’t understand something as quickly as everybody else, I have more sympathy for them. I’ve always tried to help students who didn’t understand something in class before, but now I’m more patient with them. I also think I explain things a little bit better. This has been an amazing experience. Now I am confident about what I want to do for the rest of my life: teach.
