Classroom Floor Plan
In Mrs. Darwin’s classroom there are five groups of desks. In each group there are four seats. Most groups have all four seats filled; however, there are only eighteen students in the class so some groups only have three. The students are seated in groups to make group-work easier and also to establish friendships throughout the class. The Mrs. Darwin changes the seating chart every so often so the students aren’t working with the same people all year. Every group of desks is positioned so that viewing the Promethean Board is easy, the teacher can see all of the students, and so that the room is easy to maneuver in. The Teachers’ desks are at the end of the classroom that is opposite the door. This makes it easy for both the teachers to see everybody that comes in and comes out, of the room and also to make sure nobody is doing anything they’re not supposed to. The kidney-shaped table in front of the Promethean Board is for when the teacher call groups up to work with her and also for when students with IEPs need to have something read aloud to them. When you walk into the classroom, on your left side there are hooks mounted on the wall. Those hooks are for the students to hang up their backpacks and jackets in the morning once they get to school. On the side opposite the Promethean Board there are some beach chairs and a rug so that when students are free to work with anyone in the class they might be able to sit there and do their work. Surrounding the classroom are various filing cabinets, closets, and bookshelves holding all of Mrs. Darwin’s teaching materials. The floor plan of this classroom is very efficient for teaching the fifth grade.
